Brown coal briquetting in Lužice has a tradition reaching back more than 150 years. Vattenfall, a multinational Swedish company, continues in this tradition at a location where more than a 100 briquetting plants once stood. Schwarze Pumpe, a briquetting plant, is the only such facility in the East of Germany. It manufactures briquettes from coal extracted in this area.

This manufacturing complex is the best of its kind in Europe. It complies with the strictest requirements for quality production. Brown coal processing, drying and shaping which takes place during the manufacturing process result in a greater calorific value and improved utility properties.

Lužice briquettes sold under REKORD trade name are manufactured without any use of binders. They naturally contain a low content of sulphur and ash and are characterized by excellent calorific value. They are easy to ignite, burn optimally and retain heat for a long time. Their long-term shape stability and low abrasion allow for easy manipulation.
